New East Side H-E-B Near Converse Opens Oct. 28 With More Than 400 Jobs

SAN ANTONIO, TX — The far East Side gets its new H-E-B in less than two weeks. The 125,000-square-foot store at Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 East, just outside Converse, opens at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, and H-E-B says it will run with more than 400 employees, which the company calls Partners. That is one of the larger single-site hiring stories on the East Side this fall, and the applications go through H-E-B's own careers site.

What's Opening at I-10 and 1604

H-E-B first announced the store in July in its newsroom, and the company has since set the opening date. The building is big, and the department list explains the headcount. Beyond the standard grocery aisles there is a True Texas BBQ with indoor seating, a pharmacy with a drive-thru, a bakery turning out tortillas and artisan bread, a Sushiya counter, a deli with cheese and charcuterie, a meat market and seafood counter, Meal Simple prepared meals, a Cooking Connection demo kitchen, craft beer and wine with a sampling station, Blooms floral and a Texas Backyard garden section. Curbside gets more than 30 parking spaces of its own.

Every one of those departments needs its own crew, and that is where the 400 jobs come from.

H-E-B and local reporting describe openings across store operations, customer service, pharmacy, food preparation, curbside fulfillment, specialty departments and management. General manager Will Tate grew up in the area and has spent more than 30 years with H-E-B, including leadership roles at several stores. "I have some deep roots in this community," he said in H-E-B's announcement.
